About Ixmiquilpan

Ixmiquilpan is in the Heart of the Mezquital valley, in the Corredor de Los Balnearios, where one of the most representative areas of the Otomi region is located. Situated at 1700 masl, the climate is pretty fine, favorable for interesting tourist excursions. “Ixmiquilpan” is the otomi meaning of “Town located over the cultivations of grass where leafs have a knife shape”. Outstanding municipality where agriculture, commerce, cattle ranching and services are developed, reason why is a open door to tourists from all over the world.

This destination has around 15 natural spas and thermal water parks, open every day of the year from 8:00 to 20:00. Among the health spas you’ll find: Te-Pathe, with a wide variety for fun; the Paraiso Humedades, with a capacity of 400 people; and the Club Alcantara Water Park, where comfortably 200 people can enjoy a healthy stay. Plus, all around the region, the visitors will be impacted by the beauty of the natural resources; pines, pirules, exotic and fruit trees, where inhabit species like squirrels, tlacuaches, rabbits and a wide variety of insects and reptiles.

In the town there are some interesting temples and places to see, such as the Temple and ex convent of San Miguel Arcangel, a construction made like a convent-fortress of the XVI century with a big relevance because of the different architectonical influences; the Del Carmen temple is one of the few baroque works in the state, made in the XVII century, with a chirregueresque façade of rich artistic elaboration; the main square, rebuilt in 1970, putting in the center the famous Diana Cazadora fountain, which was moved to the Reforma Avenue in Mexico City, but some years later it was moved back to Ixmiquilpan, making a replica based on the original as a mold to keep it in Mexico City. The Diana Cazadora is a valuable icon of Ixmiquilpan.

Those interested in the culture will find important museums concerning to the Hñahñu ethnic group, where photography, handcrafts, and typical clothing are exhibited. To acquire souvenirs and typical products, you can visit the traditional “tianguis” located every Monday in the surrounding streets to the Morelos market, considered the biggest in the region. within the most important cultural activities of the municipality, you can find the “Procesion del Santo Patrono Señor de Jalpan”, celebrated on September 7th every year, with duration of 8 hours, in the middle of colorful wood wool carpets, adorned arches and a wind band living up the moment.

Ixmiquilpan is an important destination of Hidalgo, where important figures like the ex Presidents Venustiano Carranza and Lazaro Cardenas inaugurated important theater plays, the town awaits for the visitors to offer the most pleasant vacations.
